5 killed in crash on I-95 in Wilson County involving 3 tractor-trailers and 2 SUVs
Five people were killed in a crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 95 North in Wilson County, officials said Wednesday afternoon.Chopper 11 was over the scene near Mile Marker 113 in the town of Lucama.The crash happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. and involved three tractor-trailers and two SUVs.North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a tractor-trailer hauling oranges crashed into the two SUVs and a tractor-trailer hauling eggs. A third tractor trailer, which was hauling sand, was also hit.The truck hauling oranges erupted into flames and was badly burned. The truck hauling eggs was pushed off the road into the ditch.At least three people were taken to Wilson Medical Center near downtown for treatment. Their conditions were not released.Identities of the victims were not immediately known, a Highway Patrol spokesman said. Troopers are still working to determine the cause of the crash.Traffic in the area was snarled for several miles. One lane of traffic reopened to drivers shortly before 5:30 p.m.
