JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Today: The humidity sticks around for the end of the week as the chance for showers and storms will increase throughout the day as a cold front passes through. Unfortunately, the front won’t really drop temperatures a whole lot, but there may be some slight relief in terms of humidity. However, this will be short-lived as tropical moisture will build back in over the weekend. Showers will continue throughout the afternoon and evening before starting to fizzle out overnight.
POLICE: 7 injured after birdshot fired into July 4 party in Ocean Springs
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WLOX) - Ocean Springs Police arrested Henry William Andray, 68, Thursday night after he allegedly shot several people at a Fourth of July party. The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on Cumberland Road in the Fort Bayou neighborhood. Police had to close several intersections during the investigation.
Lamar County accident Thursday claims life of Hattiesburg woman
LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - A 25-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Lamar County Thursday afternoon. Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said the accident happened around 3 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of Purvis-Baxterville Road when a vehicle carrying two people left the road and hit a tree.

SUMMARY: Members of the Class of '65 from Siggers High School, the first high school for African Americans in Shannon, Mississippi, aim to honor their legacy of struggle and triumph by securing a historical marker for the site. Now the location of Shannon Elementary, only one original building remains. District Sixteen Representative Rickey Thompson supports fundraising efforts for the marker, which would highlight the significance of African American education prior to integration.
