Brandon Dorsey named Assistant Band Director and Percussion Instructor at VHS
Vicksburg native Brandon Dorsey has been named the Assistant Band Director and Percussion Instructor at Vicksburg High School. Dorsey, who graduated from VHS in 2011, joined the band in the seventh grade where he played the snare drum. He went on to audition for the VHS drum line as a freshman in 2007 and eventually became a drum captain in 2010.

There was plenty of music, food, games and fun Thursday in downtown Vicksburg as a crowd descended onto Washington Street Park for the 2024 Fourth of July Downtown Fireworks Extravaganza. Live music by Dr. Zarr began at 7 p.m., with fireworks getting underway at 9 p.m.

PHS Beta Club Living Literature Team competes at Nationals
The Pelahatchie High School (PHS) Beta Club’s Living Literature team recently traveled to Savannah, GA, to compete in the National Beta Convention. These exceptional students represented Pelahatchie well both in competition and in character. PHS is proud of them and grateful to the Tribe community for helping them make this a reality. Class of 1972 awards scholarship
The Long Beach High School (LBHS) Class of 1972 alumni have funded a $2,100 scholarship that was recently awarded to LBHS senior Edjuan Trautman. The Class of 1972, through donations from classmates, raised the funds for the award and also donated to a local community non-profit organization. This is the first year of the scholarship, and the classmates say they hope to make it an annual event. The class is currently preparing for their fall class reunion and are pursuing additional fundraising avenues to grow the awards each year.
Hinds CC offering new Electrical Line Worker program
Registration is now open for Hinds Community College’s new Electrical Line Worker program on the Raymond Campus in fall 2024. The 16-week electrical line worker program will be an intensive training course designed to prepare students for careers in the electrical utility industry. The classes will be offered Monday through Friday in the fall and spring with an enrollment capacity of 16 students per semester.
