Phil Donahue, the legendary daytime talk show host who pioneered the issue-based format by creating and hosting The Phil Donahue Show from 1967 to 1996, has died. He was 88. In a statement provided to the Today show, Donahue’s family said the TV talk show journalist died Sunday in his home, while surrounded by family, including his wife of 44 years — actress Marlo Thomas — as well as "his sister, his children, grandchildren and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie."
