Demarkus Kee jailed after shooting gun into neighbor’s apartment
20-year-old Demarkus Kee shot a firearm in his apartment near Lafayette Road on May 14th. Officers spoke with the victim, who claimed that she heard what she believed to be gunshots. She told officers that she found what appeared to be a bullet hole in her upstairs guest bedroom. The officers arrived on the scene and located a portion of a bullet inside the room. Officers then made contact with two occupants of the next-door apartment, Marquisha Hanserd and Demarkus Kee. Officers spoke with Kee via phone call, who admitted to officers that he had shot the firearm while handling it. Kee told officers that he left the apartment and took the firearm to his girlfriend’s apartment, who lives in the same apartment complex. Officers were able to recover the firearm from his girlfriend’s apartment, and Kee was taken into custody for reckless endangerment.
Inoperable license plate light lands man in jail on drug charges
BEDFORD – A Tennessee man was arrested on drug charges after being stopped for an equipment violation. On Wednesday, June 5, at 12:21 a.m., Bedford Police Officer Zakry Brooking was on patrol when he spotted a silver Chevrolet Avalanche traveling east on John Williams Boulevard near Beech Street without a functioning license plate light.
Jackson Symphony Kicks Off Nights On Broadway
McKenzie, Tenn.–With the Park Theatre reflection behind the performers, the Jackson Symphony drew a crowd to downtown McKenzie Friday for the kick-off to this season’s Nights on Broadway. The Jackson Symphony performed as part of its “Symphony on the Move” program. The next Nights on Broadway performance will be by Flashback at 7 p.m. June 20. Mid Week Showers & Storms to Continue in West Tennessee
A cluster or weak storms and brief heavy rain showers are moving into West Tennessee around 9pm and tracking to the northeast. They will move through Jackson between 9:30-10:30pm. Isolated lightning strikes will be possible but these storms overall appear quite weak. We are still under a marginal (1/5) risk for severe storms tonight so we cannot rule out this storm strengthening, but chances for a severe storm, appear not be likely. JPD seeking information in shooting death of juvenile
The Jackson Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a juvenile over the weekend. According to a press release issued by the department, officers responded to 81 Sweet Briar in reference to a sixteen-year-old male who had been shot to death. The JPD reports the minor was dead upon officers’ arrival.

STEMC proposes expansion for Chester County
Southwest Electric is planning to invest $6 million in a new electrical distribution substation for Southwest TN Electric Membership Corporation (STEMC). This project is preparing Chester County for growth as attested by Kevin Murphy, STEMC’s President, Vice President of Engineering Clint Malone, and STEMC’s Community Relations Specialist, Kenley Mitchell. The result of increased tax revenue will be approximately $60,000 to the county and approximately $30,000 to the city. The current infrastructure is standing well but at some point, will approach a capacity issue. Once a capacity issue is present, reliability issues could pose a potential threat in the future.
