Governor Hochul Awards Village of Herkimer $10 Million for Downtown Revitalization

    2024-02-16

The village of Herkimer has received a $10 Million Downtown Revitalization Initiative Award from New York to boost it's economic development. Money is slated to go to a variety of uses, including investments in downtown anchor properties.

Some of the plans also include "improving the cultural experience, walkability, and improving the downtown gateways to welcome visitors."

The application for the funding from the village included changes to zoning, committments for private investment, and plans to attract jobs and economic growth.

The communities of Boonville and Richfield (with populations of about 2,000 and 1,000 respectively) similarly received $4.5 Million to make improvements to parks and bike paths, and again, walkability. All well and good, if there is somewhere to walk to.
