The Mayor of Gainesville had a window in his office smashed during the night. This follows multiple acts of vandalism at the city property. The mayor said a lengthy "hate-driven" letter was left at the scene.

Police are investigating, and cannot release the contents of the letter at this time.

Mayor Harvey Ward has this to say:

We are a City that values inclusivity, diversity and equal opportunity. As I said previously, as elected leaders, we denounce all forms of discrimination, harassment and racial violence. We believe – I believe – that all people have the right to live and work without fear and intimidation and we will protect that right.

He encouraged those who use the city hall property, including employees and visitors, to be vigilant and report any unusual activity to police.

The Gainesville Police Department non-emergency line at 352-955-1818. If the situation is an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
