Governor Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation declaring March 31st as Transgender Day of Visibility. In honor of the day, many New York State landmarks will be lit up in pink, white, and blue, including Niagara Falls and the Empire State Plaza.

The Governor issued a statement regarding the proclamation:

“Today we celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility by acknowledging the contributions that members of the transgender community have made in New York State and across the country,” Governor Hochul said. “I am proud of the strength transgender New Yorkers display every day and want to make one thing clear: you are always welcome in New York. You are loved.”

Many Republicans and Christians have taken issue with the concept and the fact that the day occurs on Easter. As it happens, the two days only co-incided by chance, as the actual date is March 31st, and Easter changes yearly. (House Speaker Mike Johnson said the Biden administration had “betrayed the central tenet of Easter” by declaring the day.) Obviously, the one has nothing to do with the other. Perhaps they've forgotten the one about love your neighbor as yourself.
