Erie, Pa ( WJET/WFXP ) — A hazmat situation took place Thursday night after a tanker spilled over 100 gallons of fatty acid along East Bayfront Parkway.

The accident was reported just after 9 p.m. at the intersection of East Bayfront Parkway and Portway Access Road.

According to police, the driver failed to close the tanker properly. As a result, when they came to a stop on East Bayfront Parkways, the contents sloshed out of the tanker, spilling over 100 gallons onto the roadway.

It took crews over four hours to work and clean the scene, using absorbent material to soak up and control the fatty acid spill on the roadway.

Crews were still at the scene for much of Friday. 511PA reported that all lanes reopened as of 8:20 p.m.
