There were plenty of standout performances on fields throughout District 10 during the first weekend of high school football .
Which player had the best performance? Times-News readers revealed their choice in a poll of 12 candidates in our District 10 Football Player of the Week poll.
With a whopping 3,524 votes, or 47.17% of the 7,471 total, Fairview's Tyler Benford was the leading vote-getter. Iroquois quarterback Cole Bennett finished second with 2,488 votes (33.30%).
Fans had 48 hours to vote in the poll, which closed Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Here are highlights of each player's Week 1 performance:
- Tyler Benford, Fairview: The Tigers never trailed in their 35-0 shutout of Slippery Rock after his two early touchdown runs.
- Cole Bennett, Iroquois: The receiver-turned-quarterback for the Braves threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns when they won 40-6 at Cochranton.
- Joe Furgiuele, Conneaut : He carried the ball 12 times for 210 yards and three touchdowns and caught an 86-yard touchdown pass in a 61-0 win over Warren.
- Joe Himes, Cathedral Prep: He recorded the last of the Ramblers' four interceptions, which clinched the Ramblers' 18-6 victory vs. Erie High at Veterans Stadium.
- Juelz Johnson, Farrell : He scored five touchdowns and 30 of Farrell’s 31 points in a 35-31 loss to Hickory. Johnson ran for 226 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries and had seven catches for 45 yards and one TD.
- Rylan Harwood, Seneca: He accounted for four of the Bobcats' five touchdowns en route to their 35-7 win against Saegertown.
- Jordan Lawrence, Meadville : He ran for three touchdowns and 146 yards on 13 carries in a 41-27 win at Fort LeBoeuf.
- Nick Lesher, Corry: His 35-yard touchdown run was the difference for the Beavers, who beat the visiting Titusville Rockets 28-22.
- Kelvin Morrison, Hickory : He ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries to lead Hickory over Farrell 35-31.
- Blayze Myers, McDowell: The quarterback surpassed 3,000 career passing yards (3,012) with 221 during the Trojans' 34-28 victory vs. Woodland Hills.
- Tobias Vahey, Harbor Creek: His six-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter was the difference in the Huskies' 13-6 win against the visiting Oil City Oilers.
- Isaac Zietz, General McLane : He threw for 313 yards and six touchdowns in a 49-47 loss at New Castle.
