Scholarships awarded
Five outstanding students recently received $5,000 scholarships from the Gulf Wind Cares Foundation. Two of the five are Escambia County residents. Kenna Alverson of Atmore recently graduated from Flomaton High School while also attending Coastal Alabama Community College. Opting to pursue higher education at the University of Alabama and major in chemistry, Kenna is on track to becoming a pediatric radiologist providing care for children.
Job fair
The Escambia County School system held a job fair Saturday, June 1, in the Flomaton High School gym. Despite the threat of bad weather, a number of interested people came out to talk with school and central office personnel. Every school in the county was represented.
