    Resident, neighbor and firefighter injured, pet killed in Escondido house fire

    ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Several people were injured in a house fire in Escondido Sunday afternoon.

    Firefighters responded to calls for a fire at a home in the 2000 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in Escondido at 12:37 p.m. Sunday.

    When firefighters arrived, heavy black smoke could be seen coming from the front of the home, the Escondido Fire Department reports.

    According to the fire department, a resident and neighbor were burned trying to get back into the house to save a pet and were taken to the hospital with burn injuries. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

    The fire department says that pet died from smoke inhalation and the San Diego Humane Society responded.

    A firefighter was also injured while battling the fire, but the fire department says those injuries were minor and he has since returned to duty.

    The Escondido Fire Department, along with a fire engine from Rancho Santa Fe, were able to get the fire under control in under 25 minutes.
