Eastern Kansas high school forfeits varsity football season
OSAWATOMIE, Kan. (KAKE) - A lack of returning upperclassmen has forced an eastern Kansas high school to forfeit varsity football this season. Osawatomie High School, located south of Kansas City in Miami County, made the announcement Thursday. The district cites the lack of upperclassmen returning to the program, as well as parents and other districts expressing concern about how Osawatomie would continue a full football schedule without a varsity team.

Pittsburg State University students can now access 24/7 mental health services from anywhere through the third-party provider, Telus Health. In the years since the COVID-19 Pandemic, mental health has become an increasing concern for many individuals, particularly on college campuses. In a study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, nearly 44% of college students have reported symptoms of depression while nearly 15% have reported seriously considering suicide in the last year. “I think we need to remove the stigma for receiving help for mental health,” Associate Vice President of Inclusion & Belonging, Deatrea Rose said. “If you had a stomachache or a headache or you broke your arm, you would immediately go and seek medical attention. The same thing should be true for our mental stability.” With these problems coming to the forefront of both the national and local attention, Pittsburg State found a solution.
