For Mandela International Magnet School senior Lucas Robbins, banning cell phones from school entirely would “not be realistic.”. Robbins, who serves as Mandela’s student board member representative, spoke to the Santa Fe Public Schools Board of Education at its July 25 meeting in support of placing clearer guidelines for phone use in the classroom in district policy. He also noted that he had reached out to his fellow students for input on the policy.

State Court of Appeals gives District Court green light to rule on 'Rust' armorer's request for new trial
The New Mexico Court of Appeals has granted a motion allowing the First Judicial District Court to rule on former Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed's request for a new trial. After a judge abruptly ended a trial for film star and producer Alec Baldwin earlier this month and dismissed the involuntary manslaughter case against him, finding prosecutors had withheld evidence, Gutierrez-Reed's attorneys filed the motion seeking a new trial for her. It asks the court to dismiss her involuntary manslaughter conviction or grant her a new trial, based on the same allegations of withheld evidence and misconduct by prosecutors.

'We never expected this': Gone 82 years, WWII soldier's remains finally brought home to Santa Fe
When Manuel Trujillo was finally lowered into the New Mexico soil Friday afternoon, all that could be heard was the squeaking of the winch and the quiet words of a blessing. No more of the chaos of the battle the young soldier fought in the heart of World War II; the brutalities of the prisoner of war camp where he was kept; the agony of death by malaria half a world away from his Santa Fe home; the indignity of a mass burial.
