    First-time Olympians in Paris: Curry, Gauff, Scheffler, more

    An estimated 10,500 athletes competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics , with nearly 600 representing the United States.

    The 592 American athletes in Paris marked the largest delegation competing in this year's Summer Games, according to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee. A selection of prominent athletes made first-time appearances on the Olympic stage.

    Meet some of the most notable members of Team USA's rookie class during the 2024 Summer Games .

    Steph Curry

    After leading the U.S. men's basketball team to FIBA world championships in 2010 and 2014, Curry helped Team USA achieve its fifth straight Olympic gold in Paris. The four-time NBA champion and two-time NBA MVP boosted his basketball resume in Paris, though his Olympic future is uncertain .

    Coco Gauff

    Heading into the 2024 Olympics, Gauff was the reigning US Open champion and No. 2-ranked women's tennis player in the world . She served as the U.S. flag-bearer during the opening ceremony alongside LeBron James. In competition, she came up short in women's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

    Sha'Carri Richardson

    The two-time world champion sprinter made her Olympic debut after having her 2020 Tokyo Olympics bid end early with a post-qualifying suspension . Richardson represented the U.S. in the women's 100 meters and the women's 4x100-meter relay, winning silver in the former and gold in the latter.

    Scottie Scheffler

    Scheffler amassed a wide collection of golf titles in 2024 prior to the Summer Games. Heading into the 2024 Olympics, he was the No. 1 golfer in the world. He ultimately scored his first gold medal for Team USA in Paris.
