Essex County D.A.: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting of 17-Year-Old at Lynn Market Basket
Lynn, Mass. – July 23, 2024 – Authorities have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of Kai Burgos, 17, of Lynn, that took place in the 40 Federal Street parking lot of Market Basket in Lynn on June 15. Adrian Pena, 18, of Lynn is now in custody after being apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, July 16. The suspect in the fatal shooting will be arraigned on a fugitive from justice charge in Miami. In addition to the U.S. Marshals Service, the Lynn Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS), the State Police Detective Unit (SPDU) assigned to the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker, and law enforcement officials in the Dominican Republic contributed to the investigation.

The following defendants have been charged with two counts of murder: Justin Alba, 25, of Peabody; and Lynn residents Darwin Batista, 20; Yefferson Vallecillo Cambar, 22; Carlos Ramirez Corniel, 16; Leonardo Espinoza, 15; and Abel Severino Reyes, 21.
