CDC warning for NJ: Rising virus cases as temperatures heat up
The CDC issued a warning about record increases in cases of dengue virus infections across the world including 42 in New Jersey in people who contracted it while traveling. Dengue (pronounced DEHN'-gay) is a virus spread through mosquito bites. The number of cases worldwide in 2024 is at a record level of 9.7 million, twice as many cases as in all of 2023.

Stephens, II announced.
2 bikers, including NJ correctional officer, die in Route 78 crash
BERKELEY HEIGHTS — Two men, including a correctional officer, died after being thrown from their motorcycles while riding on Route 78 early Sunday evening. Sherman Bardouille, 31, of Irvington, and Tamir Lee, 42, of Newark, were riding east near Exit 43 when Bardouille’s motorcycle hit the back of a Honda passenger vehicle, causing Lee’s motorcycle to collide with Bardouille. Bardouille struck a Lexus SUV and veered off the roadway hitting a sign just after 6 p.m.

Organizations in Camden, Essex, Mercer, and Passaic Counties each eligible to receive up to $2 million. TRENTON – Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced today that organizations in Camden City, Newark, Paterson, and Trenton have been selected to receive grant funds to support the creation of local Community Crisis Response Team (CCRT) Pilot Programs. Eligible municipalities and community-based organizations participated in a competitive grant process that made up to $2 million available per municipality. The Center for Family Services in Camden, the Newark Community Street Team, the Reimagining Justice Inc./Paterson Healing Collective's Paterson Compassionate Care Collaborative Project, and Salvation and Social Justice in Trenton were selected to receive funds and establish CCRT pilots in their respective cities.

An air quality alert was issued in effect until 11 p.m. for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties. "The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties: Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, Union until 11 p.m. this evening. An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards," says the National Weather Service.
