Essex County Environmental Center to host butterfly monarch story and walk Jul. 13
Butterfly monarch story and walk for ages 3-5 planned by Essex County Environmental Center on Jul. 13 in Roseland. Participants will walk the center’s trails and learn about monarch caterpillars from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Enrollment is $40 per family or $12 per child and $15 per adult. Registration available online.
Update: Heat advisory for 5 N.J. counties until Wednesday evening
The National Weather Service issued an updated heat advisory at 5:51 a.m. on Wednesday in effect until 8 p.m. for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties. Update: Air quality alert affecting 5 N.J. counties Tuesday
An updated air quality alert was issued in effect until Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties. "The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties: Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, Union until 11 p.m. this evening. An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards," states the National Weather Service.
Late June Attempted House Break Ins & Car Theft, Plus Millburn Police Crime Prevention Advice
MILLBURN, NJ -- The rash of house and car break-ins and car thefts continues in Essex County and other areas of New Jersey. Below are some of the incidents that occurred during the last half of June and information about preventing these crimes. A Coniston Road resident called the police on June 22 to report that his 2017 Audi Q5 had been stolen from his driveway. He said his key fob was left in the unlocked vehicle. Youngsters discover dinosaur tracks at Riker Hill Park
ROSELAND - Young children and their families had the chance to see real dinosaur tracks during one of the Essex County Environmental Center's programs on Tuesday, June 18. The group, led by senior naturalist David Alexander, met at the end of Locust Avenue in Roseland and hiked one mile within Riker Hill Art Park, which winds its way into Livingston, to explore a local National Historic Landmark home to three-toed Grallator tracks from the late Triassic period.
