A modern Irish pub known for its elevated comfort food and cozy ambiance is set to expand from its flagship Needham location to 55 Main St in Essex . This second spot will occupy the space previously held by the Village Restaurant, which served the community for nearly 70 years.

According to the establishment’s website , The James Pub & Provisions will open the Essex location in the spring of 2024, though an exact grand opening date has not yet been announced. The space has undergone a complete transformation and is currently being rebuilt to suit the needs of the forthcoming pub.

Ireshmen Cormac Dowling and Stuart Henry , who originally launched The James in 2018 after bonding over bartending at The Washington Square Tavern in Brookline, are committed to offering a menu that reflects the authentic flavors of Ireland.

The duo’s focus on simplicity and quality-driven cooking ensures that every dish is crafted using the freshest local produce, from the full Irish breakfast and bison chili to the curry poutine and toffee bread pudding. Additionally, The James offers plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.

To stay updated on the grand opening and other exciting developments, be sure to follow The James Pub & Provisions on Facebook and Instagram .
