LoonAsea opens in Essex

A new dock bar, restaurant and marina, has opened on an Essex waterfront.

LoonAsea, a spinoff of the regionally known Looney’s Pub chain, officially opened its doors on June 20.

The eatery is located at 207 Nanticoke Road and replaces the former River Watch Restaurant & Marina.

Perfectly positioned on Hopkins Creek in Essex, LoonAsea is replete with an elaborate dining room, covered deck, about three dozen TVs, retractable walls, large screened windows, a waterfront bar, patio seats and more.

The establishment also offers day trips and overnight stays through its marina services. Its menu includes an assortment of seafood, American favorites like wings and tacos, salad varieties and soups.

LoonAsea owners plan to implement improvements to the marina and rooftop deck in the coming months.

“What started as a casual conversation between Steve, myself and [the] Sullivan family of River Watch Restaurant & Marina [seven] years ago over drinks, 16 months of construction delays, permit delays, my ocd and changes, LoonAsea Maryland is now a reality!” Co-Owner Bill Larney said in a recent social media post.

“We can’t thank you enough for not only the support, but the patience! We cannot wait to share with you the changes and the new vibe coming to Hopkins Creek.”

The venue will also offer live music and is adjacent to The Crazy Tuna Bar & Grill.
