Bruce De Bree: Traffic and noise need to be addressed before the Champlain Valley Expo hosts more concerts

I love live music, but Essex Junction struggles with two issues — noise and traffic — which need to be addressed before we consider adding more to it.

The Champlain Valley Exposition, which pays no town tax, contributes minimally to the town while adding to the noise and traffic. Past attempts to get them to reduce the noise have not worked after the fact.

They need to pay appropriate town tax and have a realistic plan to reduce noise before we consider granting them permission. What they are proposing — more shows, larger shows — will add a lot of traffic and noise. The town tax would be earmarked for traffic taming measures.
