Estacadians have two opportunities to build community and celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Estacada’s Traffic and Public Safety Committee is hosting it’s second annual National Night Out from 5-8 p.m. in the parking lot across from Estacada Rural Fire District, located at 502 S.E. Main.

The event will feature local vendors, nonprofit organizations, local businesses, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and the Estacada Fire Department.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to foster police-community partnerships and build neighborhood camaraderie,” the committee’s announcement said.

Springwater Grange also is offering a National Night Out celebration.

The Grange members said in an invitation, they “are excited to invite the community back to their hall and will be hosting a Community National Night Out event.”

The grange night out will run from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, at 24591 Wallens Road.

“Join in this fun family event and connect with your neighbors. Representatives from the Estacada Fire and Clackamas County Sheriff’s Department will be dropping by,” the grange said.

Grange members are “looking forward to seeing their neighbors” and will be serving refreshments at the event.

National Night Out started in 1984 in the suburbs of Philadelphia and has gathered steam and events have been held across the country for decades.

At first, it was marked very simply by neighbors turning on their porch lights and sitting outside. It grew to include the big community events featuring first responders and neighborhood block parties.

Most events are designed to increase awareness about police and first responder programs in communities and gives residents an opportunity to thank these professionals for their service.
