SALMON — A fire burning near a lake has reached over 2,000 acres. The “Thunder Fire” is burning sage, grass, and fir. According to the U.S. Forest Service-Salmon-Challis National Forest, the fire is approximately two miles northwest of Williams Lake and about 11 miles southwest of Salmon. The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service says torrential rains leading to flooding are possible in southeast Wyoming today and especially on Saturday [July 27]. The agency posted the following on its website: brief return of monsoon moisture is expected on Friday and Saturday. This will bring scattered to numerous storms to the area during the afternoon and evening. Torrential rains could exist in these storms which could lead to possible flooding concerns on both days.

Western Receives National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education Grant
Western Wyoming Community College (Western) has received a $337,344 Advanced Technological Education (ATE) grant from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. government’s independent science agency.
