Softball teams from across the state set to again converge on Troy

After successfully hosting 18 softball teams (6U and 8U) last weekend for their state tournament, Troy Parks and Recreation is now set to host 27 additional teams for their softball state tournament. This weekend Troy is hosting the 10U, 12U, 15U and 18U teams. The tournament runs from July 5 – 9 with opening ceremonies on Friday at 2pm and the first round of games starting at 4pm. Most of the Troy teams will start their play at 7pm on Friday.

AUBURN, Ala. – Connecticut Sun guard-forward and former Auburn great DeWanna Bonner was named a WNBA All-Star for the sixth time, the league announced Tuesday night. Bonner, in her 15th WNBA season, is averaging a team-best 16.2 points per game, along with 6.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals for the Sun. She has led Connecticut in scoring in 15 of 19 games, including six games with 20-plus points. Earlier this season, she moved into fifth all-time in scoring in WNBA history and topped the 7,000-point career mark on May 28.

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze has shared an update regarding the injury status of an important piece to the Tigers’ roster. Alex McPherson, a sophomore kicker for the Tigers, has missed time this offseason due to a non-injury-related illness. Carr continues summer workouts with Wolverines: 'old Carver is gone'
G.W. Carver coach Bobby Carr said he saw “a lot more good than bad” as the Wolverines went through their first OTA of the summer at Trinity on Thursday. The first-year coach continues to work on team chemistry over the summer with former Carver players as well as those from Sidney Lanier, which closed down in May and merged its student population with Carver.
