South Point Casino: Serving Up Virtually Unheard of Culinary Versatility

Great food makes any day better.

The problem is that everyone’s definition of great food is different. No two people have exactly the same taste.

That’s also true for each person. We have different cravings on different days.

All this makes diversity of food important for any casino, hoping to keep all its guests happy.

Thankfully, South Point seems to really understand that. The diversity of their food offering is unbelievable.

They truly have something for everyone.

There are 11 different restaurants and five other quick-bite options.

If you can’t find something you would like to eat at South Point, there might be something wrong with you.

    Quick Bites

Las Vegas is a busy town. Most people who live in or visit Vegas have things to do, which means they won’t always have time for a sit-down meal.

If you’re looking to grab a quick bite to get back to whatever you were doing, South Point has got you covered.

    Bowling Coffee & Snack Bar

If you didn’t know South Point is a great place to bowl, now you know.

If you’re ever bowling there, the Coffee & Snack bar is an easy place to grab a quick bit. However, you don’t need to blow to order food. You can just head on up to the second floor and order.

At breakfast time, they have great breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and parfaits.

If you’re not there for breakfast, they have a wide menu that includes Chicken fingers, wings, french fries, nachos, Caesar salad, pizza, and much more.

It’s also a relatively cheap place to get your next coffee fix if you're not hungry.

    Hours: Monday — Sunday: 7 am — 12 am

    Hot Dog Cart

This is my favorite spot when I’m short on cash.

The Hot Dog Cart is located next to the sports books, and it’s one of the cheapest food options available.

They only serve one item, Vienna Beef hot dogs, and they cost $1.50 with a limit of three.

It may not be gourmet food, but it hits the spot, and the price is right.

    Hours: Monday — Sunday: 11 am — 5 pm

    Starbucks Coffee

There’s a Starbucks inside the main entrance across from the front desk.

Most people only go to Starbucks for coffee, but it also has a food menu.

If you’re already headed that way to pick up coffee, you might as well kill two birds with one stone and grab a bite to eat.

Hours: Monday — Sunday: 24 hours

Kate’s Korner: Smoothies and Ice Cream

Kate’s Korner is the place to go if you’re craving something sweet. It’s an old-fashioned ice cream parlor.

They offer everything an ice cream lover could want, including hand-dipped cones, milkshakes, malts, sodas, and sundaes.

Hours: Sunday — Thursday: 10 am — Midnight
    Friday — Saturday: 10 am — 1 am

    Pool Deli

What happens if you’re enjoying the pool at South Point and you get hungry?

Don’t worry; the Pool Deli has you covered.

The menu is simple but contains more than enough for a day at the pool. It offers a variety of snacks, salads, sandwiches, and burgers.

    Hours: Monday — Sunday: 10 am — 5 pm

    High-End Dining

Sometimes, eating isn’t just about the food. Sometimes it’s about the overall dining experience.

Casual dining has its time and place, but sometimes people enjoy something nicer.

Sometimes a high-end dining experience is what people want. If that’s the case for you, South Point has got you covered.

    Michael’s Gourmet Room

If you’re in the mood for a high-end dining experience, Michael’s Gourmet Room is the place for you.

Michael’s list of awards is long.

    • Top 5 Restaurants in Las Vegas (Zagat Survey)
    • Four-Diamond Award for exceptional cuisine, excellent service, and elegant dining atmosphere (American Automobile Association)
    • Award of Excellence (Distinguished Restaurants of North America
    • Finest Gourmet Restaurant (Las Vegas Review-Journal Readers’ Poll)

Obviously, with a high level of quality and service, the menu prices are high. But it’s worth every penny.

Note: Business Attire is required; no shorts are permitted. All guests must be 12 or older.

    Hours: Monday — Sunday: 5 pm — 9:30 pm

    Reservations
    Call: 702–796–7111
    Toll Free: 1–866–796–7111

    Silverado Steakhouse

Silverado Steakhouse may be the perfect place for you if you’re looking for a high-quality steak with a more relaxed dress code.

Don’t let the relatively relaxed dress code fool you; Silverado provides a great dining atmosphere. The hand-painted murals and vintage photographs give it an elegant feel.

The steaks on the menu are some of the best around. For fish lovers, the Grilled Salmon is also top-notch.

Once you finish your meal, give their fantastic dessert menu a try.

    Hours: Sunday — Thursday: 5 pm — 10 pm
    Friday — Saturday: 5 pm — 11 pm

    Don Vito’s

If it’s Italian food that you’re craving, Don Vito’s is your place. But this isn’t your run-of-the-mill Italian restaurant. Everything served at Don Vito’s is of the highest quality.

Being an Italian restaurant, of course, there is a great pasta section on the menu.

However, I’m a huge fan of their seafood selection.

    • Pan Seared Salmon ($36)
    • Shrimp Scampi ($39)
    • Seafood Diavolo ($48)
    • Don Vito’s Cioppino ($50)

    Hours: Sunday — Thursday: 5 pm — 10 pm
    Friday — Saturday: 5 pm — 11 pm

    Primarily Prime Rib Restaurant

Primarily Prime Rib is located on the mezzanine, which keeps its guests out of the hustle and bustle of the casino floor.

As the name suggests, prime rib is the star of the menu. However, their entree options are also delicious.

    Entrees

    • PPR Burger ($19.95)
    • The Vegan Tower of Quinoa ($21.95)
    • Chicken Cabernet ($25.95)
    • Fresh Fillet of Salmon ($31.95)
    • New York Steak ($36.95)
    • Surf & Turf ($39.95)

    Hours: Wednesday — Sunday: 4 pm — 10 pm

    Ethnic Food

One of the best parts of America being a multicultural nation is the food. America enjoys authentic food from every culture in the world.

South Point offers several restaurants that allow people to enjoy some of that great cultural diversity.

    Baja Miguel’s Mexican

If you’re craving Mexican food, Baja Miguel has got you covered. Their food menu has all the classics you would expect from a Mexican restaurant.

Their take on street tacos is particularly tasty.

    Street Tacos:

    • Baja Fresh ($16.95)
    • Crispy Fish ($19.95)
    • Shrimp Dorado ($20.95)
    • Pollo de la Casa ($18.95)
    • Carnitas Zapata ($18.95)

If you need something to drink with your tacos, their drink menu is huge. Their selection of tequila is top-notch, but they also have beer, wine, margaritas, etc.

If you come Wednesday through Sunday between 11 am and 3:30 pm you can take advantage of their Margarita Meal Deals. Purchase any of the meals below and receive a free house margarita.

    • Baja Combo ($11.95)
    • Miguel’s Trio ($12.95)
    • Carnitas Sliders ($13.95)
    • Spicy Shrimp Tacos ($14.95)
    • Fajita Rice Bowl ($14.95)

    Hours: Wednesday — Sunday: 11 am — 10 pm

    Big Sur Oyster Bar

If seafood is more your thing, check out Big Sur Oyster Bar.

The menu includes shrimp, clams, oysters, mussels, lobster, crab, and fresh fish.

Everything is prepared before your eyes with top-notch ingredients.

If you come before 4 pm, you can enjoy their What the Shuck lunch specials.

    What the Shuck:

    • Southwestern Shrimp ($11.95)
    • Butternut Squash Ravioli ($12.95)
    • Creole Shrimp & Grits ($14.95)
    • Blackened Shrimp Mac & Cheese ($14.95)
    • Fish Tacos ($15.95)
    • Poke Tacos & Salad ($15.95)

    Hours: Monday — Sunday: 11 am — 1 am

    Zenshin Asian Restaurant

Zenshin has been a huge hit with its customers ever since its opening. The menu is filled with sushi and other Asian classics.

However, for locals, Zenshin’s real popularity lies in its fantastic happy hour menu.

To wash down your meal, they offer a variety of specialty drinks, including Japanese and domestic beer, wine, and sake.

    Hours: Sunday — Thursday: 12 pm — 10 pm
    Friday — Saturday: 12 pm — 11 pm

Happy Hour: Daily: 12 pm — 4 pm and 8 pm — Close

    Buffet

Buffets aren’t unique to Vegas, but there are a number of great buffets.

I would go as far as to call Vegas the buffet capital of the world. The town is littered with a diverse selection of buffets.

South Point has one of the best around.

    Garden Buffet

The Garden Buffet at South Point has long been among the most popular buffets.

There are higher-quality buffets and cheaper buffets. But the Garden Buffet is the perfect mix of quality and cost.

There are six cooking stations to choose from:

    • Asian
    • Mexican
    • Italian
    • Barbecue
    • Chinese
    • Seafood

Friday nights are Seafood Night. That includes crab legs, oysters, peel-and-eat shrimp, and sushi.

    Saturday and Sunday brunches include:

    • Bottomless Mimosas
    • Prime Rib
    • Made-to-order omelets
    • Eggs Benedict
    • French Toast
    • Waffles

    Hours:

    Breakfast
    Monday — Friday: 7 am — 10 am

    Lunch
    Monday — Thursday: 11 am — 3 pm
    Friday: 11 am — 2 pm

    Brunch
    Saturday & Sunday: 8 am — 3 pm

    Dinner
    Daily: 4 pm — 9 pm

    Seafood Night
    Friday: 3 pm — 9 pm

    Other Options

Some dining options don’t fit neatly into a box.

That could be because they serve too wide a variety of food to label the restaurant as one thing. It could also be a “fast food” place that serves higher quality food than you would expect.

Here are three more South Point dining options.

    Coronado Cafe

Coronado Café is great for two reasons.

    1. Their menu is diverse enough to have a little something for everyone.
    2. It’s open 24 hours so you can enjoy it any time.
    3. Their specials are some of the best around.

You can enjoy their regular menu at any time of day. The menu includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.

Their Chinese Dinner Menu offers authentic Chinese food from 11 am to Midnight.

Their two house specials are especially popular.

    Prime Rib

    • $19.95 (Available From 11 am — 11 pm). 10oz. Cut Slow Roasted for Full Flavor

    16 oz. Porterhouse Steak

    • $19.95 (Served 24 Hours). With Onion Rings and Garlic Toast

Note: Both specials are served with a Cup of Soup or Dinner Salad and Baked Potato or French Fries.

Despite all the other good options, Coronado Cafe’s Late Night Specials is probably what they are best known for.

    Late Nite Specials

    • “Old Vegas” Syle Bay Shrimp Cocktail ($2.95)
    • Two Buttermilk Biscuits & Country Gravy ($3.45)

Note: Only one of the below items may be ordered per guest.

    • Two Eggs, Hash Browns, Toast, & Jelly with Bacon or Sausage Links ($3.95)
    • Ham Steak & Two Eggs, Hash Browns, Toast & Jelly ($4.95)
    • 7oz N.Y. Steak, Two Eggs, Hash Browns, Toast & Jelly ($6.45)
    • Pancake Sandwich ($4.45)
    • Cheeseburger ($4.95)

Note: Late Nite Specials are available from midnight to 6 am. Not available for takeout orders. Must be 21 or over.

    Steak ‘n Shake

Did you know that the Steak ‘n Shake inside South Point was the first to open in Nevada? Since opening in 2010, it's been serving delicious Steakburgers and Milkshakes daily.

This Steak ‘n Shake was so successful that there are now 5 locations in Las Vegas. It’s easy to see why their menu is jam-packed with delicious items.

The menu isn’t all burgers and milkshakes, it also includes:

    • Chili
    • Salads
    • Sandwiches
    • Steak Franks
    • Frisco Melt ‘n Fries
    • Fresh Baked Chocolate Chip Cookies
    • Side

But the stars of the menu are obviously the steakburgers and milkshakes.

You can order the classics (Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry) or one of their specialty milkshakes.

    • Oreo Mint
    • Nestle Butterfinger
    • Oreo Cookies ‘n Cream
    • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup
    • Very Berry Strawberry
    • Ultimate Banana
    • Chocolate Covered Strawberry

    Hours: Monday — Sunday: 11 am — 1 am

    Del Mar Deli

Del Mar Deli offers a little something for every time of day.

For breakfast, they offer traditional breakfast food, bagels, and breakfast sandwiches.

For lunch and dinner, they offer a wide variety of pizza, sandwiches, and burgers.

The entire menu is good, but they are particularly well-known for their sandwiches. Their pastrami and roast beef sandwiches are my personal favorites.

    Hours: Sunday — Thursday: 8 am — 10 pm
    Friday — Saturday: 8 am — 11 pm
