Fast food franchises are a dime a dozen.

You can find them on every corner in most cities.

Lots of them have good food.

But how many of them have a good story behind them?

Not many.

But Freddy’s is different, to say the least.

Who Was Freddy?

Freddy Simon’s life started pretty normally. He grew up on a farm in Colwich, Kansas, just outside Wichita.

After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, which wasn’t unusual for the time and area he grew up in.

What he did after that was anything but normal.

Freddy served heroically in the Pacific Rim during World War 2. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during service, as well as a Bronze Star for valor.

After the war Freddy’s hard work didn't stop. He worked in the hospitality industry for 56 years and raised six children with his wife, Norma Jean.

His legacy of family values and service lives on in the restaurant that’s named after him.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers was co-founded in 2002 by brothers Bill and Randy Simon with their friend and business partner, Scott Redler.

It was named after Bill and Randy’s father.

But, it’s more than just a name. It’s the driving force behind the values that the restaurant tries to uphold.

They try to do everything “The Freddy’s Way.”

Successful Expansion

The Freddy’s Way has clearly been a success.

Their first location, which opened in Whichta in 2002, is still going strong today.

In true Freddy’s fashion, it doesn’t stop at one restaurant. It has expanded all over the country and even internationally.

• 2011 Freddy’s opened its 50th store in Victorville, California
• 2013 Freddy’s opened its 100th store in Bowling Green, Kentucky
• 2015 Freddy’s opened its 150th store in Loveland, Colorado
• 2018 Freddy’s opened its 300th store in Indianapolis, Indiana
• 2022 Freddy’s announced it would expand to 9 provinces in Canada

Freddy’s features a simple, but delicious menu.

They serve delicious burgers, sandwiches, sides, and frozen custard.

Burgers

Their steakburgers, which are served as a single, double, or triple, are their flagship burger.

But they also have several other options including my personal favorite:

California Style Double Burger

• Two steakburger patties
• Cheese
• Full slice of onion
• Thousand Island
• Lettuce
• Tomato
• All on a toasted bun

Sandwiches & More

If you’re not in the mood for a burger, they offer several delicious sandwich options.

As well as hot dogs and chili dogs.

A burger or a sandwich don’t make a meal on their own, you need delicious sides to go with it.

If you’re looking for something sweet to finish off your meal, Freddy’s is the perfect choice.

You can create your own Frozen Custard.

Freddy’s only has one location in Henderson (there are 4 in neighboring Las Vegas). But, hopefully, they will expand in the future.
