Shoelaces become untied but Sha’Carri Richardson never gets unglued.

In her first-round heat Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, the defending world 100-meter-dash champion set the pace for all women by clocking 10.88 seconds in that event.

Richardson, who hopes to claim the title of World’s Fastest Woman at the Paris Olympics, had a few awkward steps near the start of her race. But she stayed calm and carried on.

Then her right shoelaces began flapping in the wind despite her tying them before settling into the blocks.

Photo evidence of this is in our video slide show from Day 1 at Hayward Field.

Check back here for highlight images of the rest of the meet.
