The college and professional football world are mourning on Saturday after news broke that former Oregon Ducks cornerback, Khyree Jackson, tragically died in a car accident on Friday night. Shortly after it was announced, Ducks head coach, Dan Lanning offered his condolences to his former player.

Jackson transferred to Oregon after playing two seasons for the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, Friday night, Jackson got into a car accident with the details being unknown for now. Khyree Jackson's death was confirmed by his agent and former high school coach, according to James Crepea of The Oregonian. Jackson was just 24 years old and looking forward to a career in the NFL.

Shortly after Jackson's death was announced, Dan Lanning took to social media to offer his condolences . The Oregon coach stated that he loved Khyree Jackson as a person and is "at a loss for words."

Khyree Jackson fought his way into the NFL after having a roller coaster of a college career. There was a moment in his life where he started working at a grocery store and focused on playing video games to possibly get drafted in the NBA 2K League. He found a new opportunity at Oregon, as he and Dan Lanning clicked. Jackson worked his way to becoming one of the best cornerbacks in the Pac-12 last season and was in a position to make some noise for the Minnesota Vikings as a rookie.

Dan Lanning played a huge part in developing Khyree Jackson's game. Jackson gave Lanning a ton of credit for letting him "play his game" on the field. That relationship played a part in helping Jackson improve as a football player and eventually get drafted by the Vikings. James Crepea shared a quote from Jackson about his relationship with Lanning.

It's truly a tragic moment for Khyree Jackson and his family. He had a bright future ahead of him and a brilliant comeback story to boot. He proved to be a consistent cornerback for the Ducks as well, finishing the 2023 season with 34 total tackles, two sacks, and three interceptions.
