University of Oregon football player Daylen Austin has been scheduled to face a 12-person jury trial in February over his alleged role in a hit-and-run in April that left another man dead.

Lane County Circuit Court Judge Clara Rigmaiden presided on Thursday over a settlement conference between county prosecutors and Austin's defense lawyers but the sides could not reach an agreement. The trial was set for Feb. 19.

The 19-year-old is charged with Failure to Perform Duties of Driver for his alleged role in a hit-and-run in April that killed 46-year-old Frank William Seaman. Typically a misdemeanor charge if only property is damaged, it can become a felony if a person is killed or seriously injured. In Austin's case, the charge was filed as a Class B felony.

The incident happened on April 15 at around 9:10 p.m. at West 4th Avenue and Polk Street, according to the Eugene Police Department.

Austin, a cornerback, was a prized 2023 recruit from Long Beach, California. He played in three games last fall for the Ducks, finishing with three tackles and a pass breakup.

It was unclear how the case would affect Austin's status with the team.
