Much of Kansas at risk of rapid onset drought
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Much of Kansas has dealt with serious drought at some point this year, but now most of the state is at risk for rapid onset drought. Wichita is working on ways to deal with the ongoing drought but conditions could soon be worsening rapidly. A map by the Climate Prediction Center Thursday afternoon shows that most of the Great Plains will face extreme heat through the first week of August. The map shows the scope of the rapid onset drought risk, including parts of Wichita.
Bob Marcum, AD at Kansas, has died at age 87
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Bob Marcum, who served as athletic director at Kansas, South Carolina, UMass and Marshall, has died a few days after suffering a stroke. He was 87. South Carolina, UMass and Marshall's athletic departments all announced Marcum's death Wednesday, a day after he died. Arkansas coach John Calipari, who worked under Marcum at Massachusetts, posted on social media Sunday that Marcum was hospitalized after complications from a stroke.
Governor announces $10M for broadband projects, includes Wilson, Philips counties
TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly announced today that $10 million has been awarded to 12 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the latest round of Broadband Acceleration Grants. New name, same goal: Hope Wichita hosts annual back-to-school event
Hope Wichita, formerly known as Convoy of Hope, is hosting its annual back-to-school event on Saturday. The nonprofit will give out food and school supplies at locations in Wichita, Valley Center and Hutchinson. This year, the organization also is giving out supplies and resources at a location in Newton on Aug. 3.
