Slash Brings his S.E.R.P.E.N.T Festival Tour to Astro

Slash is taking a page from the Clapton playbook and started his own blues festival, titled S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival aka Solidarity, Engagement, Restore, Peace, Equality, N’, Tolerance. Not many can say that, but Slash has had a long career and this was the perfect time to do this in between GNR and Conspirators recording and touring.
Chadron State introduces new hoops coach Chris Francis
In front of a respectable crowd of Chadron employees, coaches, and community residents, Chadron State introduced its new men's basketball head coach on Wednesday, July 17th, at the Chicoine Center. Interim Athletic Director Dr. China Jude opened the introduction, speaking about Chris Francis's commitment to student-athlete development and sharing several comments made by athletic administrators and coaches around the county.

Bow Seniors Pick Up Doubleheader Sweep of O’Neill
In their final regular season tune up before the area tournament, the Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team traveled to O’Neill Sunday for a doubleheader. In game one, Broken Bow used a seven run second inning to key a 15-2 victory in a game that was shortened to five innings on the five run rule. Bow’s 15 runs came on 10 hits. Kayden Record and Brycen Woodward each had a multi hit game in the win. Record was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI while Woodward went 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. Max Denson pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up no runs on no hits while striking out six. Caenyn Priest pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 1 hit and striking out five.

Two future Huskers help Team USA to runner-up finish at Honkbalweek Haarlem
Two Huskers helped Team USA to a championship game appearance in an international tournament over the week. Newcomers Robby Bolin, Luke Broderick, and Team USA lost to Team Japan in the historic Honkbalweek Haarlem title game. The NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association selected the team. Its roster was narrowed down from 120 players to its current 24-man size. Bolin was named the tournament’s best hitter. He finished a .391 batting average in the seven games with nine hits, an RBI, and six runs scored. Broderick appeared in one game for Team USA, appearing in 3.1 innings in relief. He allowed three hits and no runs while compiling six strikeouts and two walks. Donations Being Accepted for New Veterans Memorial
American Legion Post 130 is planning to build a veterans memorial on the corner of Highway 40 and 92. The large memorial will consist of at least four 6’ x 3’ inscribed monuments listing the names of at least 300 local veterans. The names of Sons of American Legion and Auxiliary Unit 130 members will be listed on the back of each monument. An inscribed, taller monument will be located in the center, with flags surrounding the circle.
North Platte Pow Wow: Pageantry, dance, honoring the Spirit
The colorful North Platte Pow Wow attracted about 300 spectators Saturday to the grounds at Buffalo Bill State Historical Park in the northwest corner of the city. The third and final day of the Pow Wow, with honor to all military veterans, began Sunday at 11 a.m. with seven Quilt of Valor presentations to veterans.
Huskers to host 2026 defensive back next weekend
A class of 2026 recruit has scheduled a visit to Nebraska next weekend. JJ Dunnigan is a 6-foot-2 defensive back from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, KS. Dunnigan will be in Lincoln on July 27 to meet new defensive backs coach John Butler. Butler is taking over for Evan Cooper, who resigned last week for personal reasons. The new Cornhusker coach is excited to continue his career at Nebraska. “I am excited to join Coach Rhule, this staff, and the great tradition of Nebraska Football and the Blackshirt Defense. I look forward to working with our players to develop them as players, students, and young men, Day by Day!” The 6-foot-2 Dunnigan is currently considering Nebraska, Kansas State, Kansas, and Colorado State.
