EVANS, Ga. (WJBF) – A big Independence Day celebration happened at Evans Towne Center Park.

BOOM! The park was a success, with over 30 food, beverage, and dessert vendors with live music from Whiskey Run and Ryan Trotti leading up to the fireworks and first-ever laser show.

“Well, we moved to the area about four or five years ago,” said Julieanne Mahoney, an attendee. “And we love the sense of community and for all our kids to come out and enjoy this, so they put on a great show, and it’s lots of fun.”

Attendees were excited to bring their kids and make memories as a tradition.

“We’ve come to Boom in the park three years now. We’ve enjoyed it. It’s always a good time, and it’s her first actual one where she’s going to know it. So it’s been a lot of fun,” said  Tyler Jaenicke, an attendee.

One person we spoke to was originally from Florida, where she said they had great fireworks shows. She was happy to have something like this to come to Evans.

“It’s a great time lots of people, lots of good energy,” said Mika West, an attendee. “Just something exciting to do for the fourth because you know there’s a lot of stuff here in the Augusta area to do, but Grovetown, Evans is the place to come.”

On the other hand, a couple who has lived in Columbia County their entire lives and watched how the event grew, all the while being each other’s fireworks date since 1987.

“We would just go to the mall, but when they started it here, we decided to start supporting it. We’re just excited to see Columbia County grow like it has,” said Melanie Shead, an attendee.

Some families with family members were at the event to honor what the Fourth of July is all about.

“The fourth is important to us because my husband spent 20 years in the military, so being part of a community that supports it is really awesome,” said Julieanne Mahoney, an attendee.

The one thing to remember is why and who we celebrate during this holiday.

“I served our country, so it means a lot to me. I want to appreciate all the soldiers and the fallen veterans that couldn’t be here with us today for the ultimate sacrifice, so it’s freedom,” said Tyler Jaenicke, an attendee.
