Disturbing social media posts have surfaced shedding light on the troubling circumstances surrounding the Indiana father charged with gross neglect after his baby boy was subjected to a harrowing rat attack in their decrepit home.

In a chilling 2021 social media message, David Schonabaum ominously confessed, "I avoid s–t because I’m afraid of me, not you. Temper go from zero to prison real fast."

Although Schonabaum is a convicted felon, he managed to avoid prison in a 2021 case involving meth possession, receiving a one-year suspended sentence instead, which he served under home detention while completing community service.

The current charges against Schonabaum, his wife Angel Renee Schonabaum, and her sister, Delania Thurman, include child neglect. Authorities discovered the couple's 6-month-old son with over 50 rat bites covering his body, including his tiny fingers gnawed down to the bone.

The infant was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital, where he received treatment and a blood transfusion after his body temperature dropped significantly.

The shocking incident has been described by Evansville police spokesperson Sgt. Anna Gray as one of the most severe cases of child neglect in her lengthy career.

The Schonabaum family shared their home with three other children, aged 3, 6, 2, and 5, making this horrific episode all the more disturbing. Authorities responded to the house on September 13, where they discovered the injured baby.
