HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Evansville Police Department charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly assaulted his own friend due an issue with his ex.

According to a police affidavit, officers were dispatched to an assault in progress. The caller stated that a man, Tarrell Thomas, was assaulting her neighbor.

Upon arriving at the scene, police say officers placed Thomas into custody as AMR treated the severely injured victim.

After speaking the victim at the hospital, police say this incident was because of an issue with Thomas’ ex. The victim says him and Tarrell are friends and they were together at his home before Thomas accused the victim of “sleeping with his ex.”

This argument apparently led to a fist fight that made its way to the front yard and Thomas allegedly got an object from his car, struck the victim numerous times with it and stated that he was going to kill him.

Neighbors say they could not properly identify the weapon except that it looked like “a pole, a stick or a bat.”

According to police, Thomas denied making any statements about wanting to kill the victim.

At this time police say the alleged weapon has not been located as it may still be in the vehicle that was towed to secure storage pending a warrant.

Thomas was booked into the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center for attempted murder.

This is still under investigation and we will update more as we find out more information.
