EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The University of Evansville filed a legal complaint against Fastlane Communications last week after officials say they were misled into spending $10,000 to participate in a basketball tournament.

According to court documents, the university entered into a contract with Fastlane in March of last year. The contract stated Fastlane would host a basketball tournament called the Las Vegas Holiday Classic, with UE being one of the competing teams.

As part of the agreement, UE was to pay Fastlane $20,000 to participate in the tournament, with the first $10,000 being paid within 30 days after signing the contract, and the remainder being paid by November 1 of 2023. UE says after the first deposit was paid, it was discovered that there were no other entrants to the tournament, causing the tournament to be canceled.

Representatives from UE say they contacted Fastlane for a refund, but after four months of communications, they never received the $10,000. A complaint filed on behalf of the university accuses Fastlane of breach of contract.

Eyewitness News reached out to UE Chief Communications Officer Noah Alatza, who released the following statement: “We believe the complaint speaks for itself and we are hopeful for a swift and fair conclusion.”
