EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The Women’s Hospital Classic tennis tournament halted play due to excessive heat this morning.

Eyewitness News was told a match can not be played outdoors if on-court temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Around 11:00 a.m. CT, the on-court temperature read 111 degrees Fahrenheit, citing grounds for a stoppage.

Tournament officials say the plan is to be inside until Thursday due to Tuesday’s expected heat and Wednesday’s chance of rain.

Evansville native and Memorial High School graduate, Chase Boyer, was 25 minutes into her first Singles Qualifying Draw match with Victoria Flores when play was stopped. The two were tied 2-2 in the first set.

Play will resume indoors Monday at 5:00 p.m. CT at Evansville Tennis Center. All Monday matches are still scheduled to be completed by Monday night.
