The All-Star break isn't just for Major League Baseball.

Every level of affiliated professional baseball is on break until Friday. While your attention turned to the festivities at Globe Life Field in Texas this week, it's also an opportunity to take a breathe and look big picture. Southwestern Indiana currently has a quartet of former standouts playing in the minor leagues, though there are others playing professionally.

Let's take a look at how every former Evansville-area athlete is doing at the affiliated level in 2024.

    Colson Montgomery, Chicago White Sox

The Southridge High graduate continues to be one of the top prospects in the White Sox organization.

Montgomery is currently ranked as the 16th best prospect by MLB.com and has spent all season at Triple-A with Charlotte. The 22-year-old shortstop has experienced struggles at the plate (a .216/.328/.373 slash line and 101 strikeouts) this year but is flashing his potential with 11 home runs, 12 doubles and 36 RBIs through 73 games.

Montgomery had a three-hit game with three RBIs against Durham on July 9. He was recently a starter for the American League in the Futures All-Star Game last Saturday, drawing one walk.

    Elijah Dunham, New York Yankees

The Reitz High graduate has mostly spent the year at Double-A.

Dunham batted .286 with 10 home runs, 16 doubles and 38 RBIs in the first half with Somerset. The former Indiana Hoosier has been on fire in July with a .409/.458/.818 slash and six homers in his last 17 games. Dunham was the Eastern League Player of the Week for July 1-7 which included a go-ahead grand slam against Reading.

The 26-year-old outfielder also had a 17-game hit streak, the longest for Somerset in its Double-A era. He had a brief four-game call-up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in June.

    Zach Messinger, New York Yankees

The Castle High graduate has spent the entire season in Double-A with Somerset and is a teammate of Dunham.

Messinger is having one of his better professional seasons with a 3.94 earned run average and 100 strikeouts in 96 innings. His current ERA would be a career-best after spending most of last season in High Single-A. The 24-year-old pitcher and former Virginia Cavalier had his best month in May with a 1.95 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings across five starts.

His best outing recently came on June 27 with zero earned runs allowed in six innings against Richmond.

    Cameron Decker, Los Angeles Dodgers

The North High graduate has split his time at two spots but is having a resurgence in Single-A.

Decker is batting .262 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs in 42 games between the Dodgers' Arizona Complex League and Rancho Cucamonga. The 20-year-old infielder/outfielder has been on a heater though since his return to the latter on June 28. He is batting .326 with a 1.040 OPS and three homers in his last 11 games.

Decker hit a pair of home runs against Visalia on July 6 and a go-ahead two-run single in the ninth against Stockton on July 10. He had five straight games with an extra-base hit and eight RBIs in the same stretch.
