A major technology outage caused headaches for people in Evansville and the Tri-State on Friday morning.
CrowdStrike , a U.S. firm that advertises being used by over half of Fortune 500 companies, said one of its recent content updates had a defect that impacted Microsoft's Windows Operating System, adding the incident was "not a security incident or cyberattack."
The outage cancelled flights, disrupted bank operations and caused other issues around the globe Friday in an incident CrowdStrike blamed on a faulty system update.
"The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed," a statement from CrowdStrike said. The company's CEO, George Kurtz, apologized for the disruptions in an interview with NBC's Today . Microsoft, meanwhile, said "the underlying cause has been fixed," but residual impacts will affect some of its Microsoft 365 apps and services.
Here are some of the impacts in the Evansville/Tri-State region.
Some flights delayed, cancelled at Evansville Regional Airport
The Evansville Regional Airport account on X (formerly Twitter) posted updates from three of its major carriers − Allegiant Air, Delta and American Airlines.
Allegiant noted that its customers "may experience delays when booking, checking in or accessing boarding passes."
Delta said it had "paused its global flight schedule (Friday) morning" due to a "vendor technology issue."
American Airlines said that it had been impacted by the outage, but as of 4 a.m. CDT, it had "been able to sagely re-establish our operation."
The issues were reflected in the Evansville Regional Airport departures and arrivals listings Friday morning. One Allegiant flight to Orlando-Sanford had been delayed by two hours, while two Delta flights had been pushed back several hours.
The American Airlines and Breeze flights were listed as "on time" as of 8:50 a.m.
