EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — As a part of the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership’s “Lunch with the Mayors” event, Mayor Stephanie Terry of Evansville, Mayor Brad Staton of Henderson, Mayor Greg Wright of Princeton and Mayor Stephen Loehr of Mount Vernon share details behind current projects and what is coming in the future.

Mayor Wright speaks to the crowed about the anticipated Toyota Indiana YMCA downtown. He believes it contributes to healthy living in Gibson County.

“I think we fall short on some of those things — teaching kids how to have a healthy diet and even old people — like I’m getting to be — helps them to be more active and to be out in the community more,” Mayor Wright says.

All cities answered questions about shaping their future as well. In her term, Mayor Terry wants to focus on neighborhood revitalization and building neighborhoods into cultural districts.

“We’ve seen successes at Haynie’s Corner and Franklin Street. We want to expand that to some other neighborhoods that might not have been invested in in a significant manner,” Mayor Terry says. “So that’s beautifying parks, just adding connectivity with sidewalks. So, you’re going to see some true development.”

Mount Vernon is set to break ground on an accessible playground called Avery’s Place.

Mayor Loehr has more planned for the next four to five years.

“We have the rest of that 42 acres to develop. So, I’ve created basically four phases. And that will include 17,000-square foot facility — soccer fields, new ball diamonds,” Mayor Loehr says. “We’ll have two clovers — or four — ball fields, which will be softball and baseball, pickleball courts, soccer fields. Like I said — a lot of green space.”

Across the river in Henderson, Mayor Brad Staton and Judge Executive Brad Schneider give updates during their “State of the City and County address.
