Kids try instruments at Musical Petting Zoo
Dozens of children enjoyed the opportunity to try their hands at playing stringed instruments, gleefully taking bow to strings and creating their own tunes. On July 13, Gatesville Tennis hosted the annual Ethan Sandell Memorial Open Tennis Tournament. There were representatives from Brownwood, Waco, China Spring, Crawford, Whitney, Shoemaker, and many from Gatesville. 14-year-old charged in fatal alcohol-related crash, Bellmead police say
BELLMEAD, Texas (KWTX) - The Bellmead Police Department says they’re investigating after a 14-year-old was charged in an alcohol-related crash that left one bicyclist dead. Police say on July 14, a 14-year-old was driving a vehicle when they hit 67-year-old bicyclist Dennis Welch, who died as a result of the crash.
CCISD opening enrollment center next week
Copperas Cove ISD will open an enrollment center, to provide a one-stop shop for parents of new and returning students. From Monday through Friday, July 22-26, CCISD staff members will be in the cafeteria at Copperas Cove High School, not only to help parents enroll their students for the 2024-25 school year, but to answer any questions they may have.
Local school districts will offer free meals to students next year
Gatesville ISD announced via Facebook on Monday that all elementary and primary students will eat free in the cafeteria for the 2024-2025 school year. While the school district has served free meals to the primary school students for several years, Superintendent Barrett Pollard said the school received official approval from the Texas Department of Agriculture to serve free breakfast and lunches at the elementary campus. The school is able to provide free meals under Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in low-income areas.

Crowd turns out for regional career fair in Copperas Cove
Job seekers trailed in and out of the Civic Center in a steady stream taking advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the dozens of jobs available in our area. Copperas Cove’s EDC teamed up with the Texas Veterans Commission and Texas Workforce Solutions of Central Texas to offer their first Regional Career Fair at the Civic Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of their HireCove program. There were 55 different employers who attended the event, offering plenty of variety.
