EVENSVILLE — The Rhea County Lady Eagles flag football team is set to host its inaugural home game on Friday, April 12, at Eagle Stadium in Evensville.

Rhea will take on White County and Stone Memorial in two of three games that will be played at Rhea County High School. Games begin at 5:30 p.m.

The district has two other teams with White County and Stone Memorial joining Rhea. Cumberland County was originally in the district as well but had to drop out.

On game days, two teams will travel to the third team’s field on a rotating basis. Each game day will include three games with 20 minute halves and a running clock. It is expected to take approximately three hours to play all three games.

The games are seven-on-seven. Everybody besides the quarterback can go out for passes and the defense must start five yards behind the line of scrimmage. The defense can rush the passer or drop back in coverage.

Other rules that are different than tackle football include: Fumbles are dead when they hit the ground, meaning a defensive player can’t recover a fumble and take possession. The field is divided into four 20-yard zones and the offense has four downs to get a first down into the next zone.

The field is shorter and not as wide, as it is 80 yards long instead of 100 and about 40 yards wide instead of 53 as in tackle football. And obviously, there is no tackling.

Stiff arming is prohibited and flag guarding is a penalty. Blockers protecting the quarterback have to keep their hands either behind their back or at their side and cannot use them to block a rusher.

There are no punts, kickoffs or field goals. Point after attempts are played from the three yard lane for a one point attempt or from the 10 yard line for a two point attempt.

Lady Eagles Head Coach Brian Kamer said his playbook is a mix of plays he likes and what his team is good at running, but his basic philosophy is to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers.

The team captains are Lexie Lee, Ginger Avarado-Jimenez, Kelsey Kerley and Madison Mani.

The rest of the squad includes Lily Whitehorn, Kaitlin Tennyson, Mollie Smith, Alexandra Ayala, Judith Castellon-Leyte, Laila Grun, Maddie Neal, Emma Neal, Tia Goins, Alina Meja-Rendon, Asia Hitchcock, Andrea Santiago, Prabhnoor Parmar, Kloee Maerki, Maddie Stewart and Shailee Rees. Faith Harris is a reserve player.

Along with Kamer, the rest of the coaching staff is defensive coordinator Jared Kamer, conditioning coach Tiffany Stinson and team manager Hannah Kamer.
