Kraken Prospects Firkus, Hammell Put On Show In Everett

Two Seattle Kraken prospects made big contributions to one of the wildest Western Hockey League games of the season Friday in Everett.
2022 2nd round pick Jagger Firkus (above photo) scored the only goal of the shootout, as his Moose Jaw Warriors outlasted the Silvertips, 8-7.
Firkus earlier picked up two points, including his 47th (!) goal of the season.
Not to be outdone, Everett's Kaden Hammell also scored a power play goal and added an assist. Hammell, a defenseman, was a 5th round choice of the Kraken in 2023.
Thursday, Firkus and his Moose Jaw teammates took in the Kraken's 2-0 shutout over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Climate Pledge Arena.
Before the game, Firkus was asked if he's kept up with other prospects he got to know at last summer's Kraken development camp.
"Those guys are really good guys. We all get along with each other. I'm super happy with those guys having success."
David Goyette
One of those is David Goyette, take in the same round as Firkus by the Kraken in the same 2022 draft.
Goyette, Sudbury Wolves center, is leading the OHL with 96 points. He was named the league's player of the month in February.
"I'm really tight with Goyette and we talk pretty much every day," Firkus revealed. "We didn't know each other until we were roommates from the first dev camp. You get to know each other living with each other that long."
Carson Rehkopf
He also referenced another Kraken draftee, Carson Rehkopf, taken in the 2nd round in 2023. Rehkopf, center for the Kitchener Rangers, leads the OHL with 49 goals.
"Rehkopf, he's been flying the whole year. He had a good World Juniors, too. It's great to see all those guys having success."
Firkus and his Warriors are at accesso ShoWare Center in Kent Saturday night for a 6 pm faceoff with the Seattle Thunderbirds.
