The video for Callista Clark and Scotty McCreery‘s gorgeous new duet, “Gettin’ Old,” is out now. The song was written by Clark, who had the idea to invite McCreery to join her on the heartbreaking track.

“Scotty was my first choice for a duet partner on ‘Gettin’ Old,’” Clark said when the song was announced. “I’ve always loved his voice and how he approaches his career. He absolutely nailed this song.”

Not that McCreery was hard to convince. The father of one has been of fan of Clark for a long time, ever since they toured together overseas.

“I first met Callista on a UK tour we did together a few years ago,” McCreery said at a recent media event. “She was opening the shows for us. I was just blown away by her songwriting and her stage presence, and her voice is just ridiculous. The runs she can do, I think I would fall over if I tried to do what she does with her voice. She’s so talented and has something she wants to share with the world.

“So when she sent the song over, I fell in love with it, and was just honored that she wanted me to sing on it,” he added. “So I’m excited for folks to hear it. It’s a great song. She wrote one heck of a song, and I’m excited for people to hear it.”

Clark wrote “Gettin’ Old” with Averie Bielski and Karen Kasowski.

“This was one of the writing days where I didn’t have an idea what I wanted to write,” Clark shared on YouTube, ahead of the video’s premiere. “All I had was a really sad, bluegrass, acoustic guitar part, and I just thought, ‘We’re just gonna see what happens today. See if there’s anything in the room.' And sure enough, Averie came in with the idea of ‘Growin’ Old.’ We were trying to make it a play on words, trying to do all we could do with it, and I was like, ‘Wait. Why don’t we do ‘Gettin’ Old’ then … It was super easy to write.”

Clark has a lot to look forward to besides new music. The 20-year-old recently announced her engagement to American Idol alum, Garrett Jacobs, whom she has been dating for more than three years.

“Garrett is just the most loyal and kind-hearted person that I’ve ever met,” Clark told People when announcing their engagement. “Since we’re in the same industry, he really gets everything that I’m going through, and he’s just so supportive. He is genuinely just the nicest person ever, so it’s really hard to not love him.”

“Gettin’ Old” might be about the end of a relationship, but Clark is completely confident about her relationship with Jacobs.

“People might say I am too young, but I feel like people could have said that about anything that I’ve done at this point,” Clark said. “I was too young to sign a record deal and I was too young to go out on tour, you know? I’ve always felt like an old soul. I’ve always wanted to get married young.”
