Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson announced Tuesday a grand jury has indicted Excelsior Springs man Timthoy Haslett, 41, with first-degree murder in connection to the 2022 death of Jaynie Crosdale.

Last year, Haslett was charged with several felony sex crimes charges, kidnapping, assault and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to several alleged crimes in late September 2022 at a home in Excelsior Springs.

Tuesday's grand jury indictment adds one charge to the existing nine against Haslett, bringing the total to 10 criminal charges.

Thompson said his office has requested a $5 million bond against Haslett due to the new charge. Haslett has remained in custody at the Clay County Detention Center since his earlier arrest.

During Tuesday's news conference, Thompson said evidence collected by investigators indicates Crosdale was inside a blue barrel that was found with a bullet hole in it.

Two kayakers discovered the blue barrel on a trip in June 2023 along the Missouri River north of Grand Pass, Missouri. The remains inside the barrel were later identified as Crosdale.

Thompson also mentioned that Haslett and Crosdale likely originally met as part of Crosdale's "commercial sex work."

Excelsior Springs police launched a multi-day investigation that started in October 2022 after a woman began knocking on doors before 8 a.m. and claimed to have been kidnapped and raped.

She told police that Haslett held her against her will for several weeks and repeatedly sexually assaulted her in the 300 block of Old Orchard Street. That surviving victim said Haslett told her that he had killed two people.

Thompson said Tuesday the investigation remains open, but the new charge represents the extent to which Haslett can be charged at this time.
