Fremont County Sheriff's Office warns of card skimmers at Hamburg Casey's
(Hamburg) -- Fremont County authorities are advising residents of card skimmers that were located on multiple pumps at the Casey's in Hamburg. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office says credit or debit card skimmers were located on pumps three, four, and five at the Casey's in Hamburg at around 3 p.m. Thursday. Authorities say the skimmers have been on the pumps for an unknown amount of time.

It's known as the Day the Music Died ― when rock 'n' roll legends-in-the-making Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper died shortly after a plane carrying them to their next gig crashed in a snow-covered Iowa cornfield outside Clear Lake. The Register's sister afternoon paper, the Des Moines Tribune, reports on the tragedy, which occurred early on Feb. 3, 1959, after the three performed in their Winter Dance Party at Clear Lake's Surf Ballroom. Holly would be among the first artists inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Ackley City Council Discusses Nuisance Violation Rates and Fees
Last week, the Ackley City Council discussed nuisance violation rates and fees. Ackley Mayor, Michael Nuss, informed the council that in speaking with city attorney Seth Schroeder, the city is able to charge and invoice actual costs incurred for nuisance violation fees. When a property owner does not pay for the costs incurred, the city can assess the property owner. The council tabled any action on the matter until next month.
Neighbors raise concerns to Des Moines City Council over nonprofit's plan for affordable housing
DES MOINES, Iowa — The building at 1301 Kenyon Ave is vacant for now, but Hope Ministries has plans to turn it into affordable housing for men who were formerly homeless. The organization sees this project as a step in the right direction for Des Moines , though neighbors say they are concerned about what this means for the neighborhood.
