Wachholtz and Ballard honored by Governor for volunteerism
Paula Wachholtz of Panora and Cathy Ballard of Guthrie Center were honored June 25 during the annual Iowa 2024 Governor’s Volunteer Awards ceremony. The two were among more than 400 Iowans similarly honored. This was the 40thyear of the awards program. Individuals and groups were honored, and length of service awards were also given.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A few showers are possible through the overnight hours, but most areas can expect to stay dry. Showers have been tapering off, leaving most areas dry this evening. While a stray shower cannot be ruled out overnight, most areas are expected to remain dry until Sunday afternoon. Lows tonight drop into the low to mid 60s with light winds out of the southwest.

DNR Studying Ways to Increase Deer Population in Southwest Iowa
(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources hosted several public meetings on the importance of managing the deer herd. John Lorenzen from the DNR Office in Lewis says some areas of the state, including southwest Iowa, currently show a significant drop in the deer herd needed to satisfy deer hunters.

Burlington, IA- The City of Burlington has released an update on the Madison and 9th Street resurfacing project. According to a news release, the current construction phase on Madison, between Harrison and Sunset, and on South 9th, between South and Angular, is continuing with the new asphalt overlay expected to be placed between approximately July 30th and August 9th.

OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Fair hosted the 6th Annual Caleb Hammond Memorial Race on Wednesday, July 17th with a packed infield and a full grandstand on a beautiful night for racing at the Southern Iowa Speedway. URBANDALE, Iowa — In the Karen Acres neighborhood tree trucks and utility trucks rumble down the streets. Piles of branches line the streets, waiting to be picked up. “Non-stop text and phone calls nonstop all day and night,” said Tim Roney, of RR Tree Service. Roney recently retired from a job in an auto repair shop. Now he, and son Adam, are hard at work getting branches off of rooftops.
