What appeared to be a typical day immediately changed for Officer Cpl. Jason Lee when he was pulled over on Greenwell Springs Road on Saturday.

19-year-old Destiny Allen and her mother needed to be escorted to the closest hospital while she was in labor . But before they got too far, she started to give birth.

Lee told WBRZ , “I opened her door and I saw spandex and his head was popping out. I was like ‘oh, man this is it. This is prime time.'”

He also told WAFB , “I didn’t know what to do at that time. We pulled over to the store and kind of assessed the situation and learned from actually being around medical people and what I learned from the Baton Rouge Police Department and tried to assist the best way I could.”

While Noah’s due date was originally set for May 12, the young mother disclosed that she was worried that something terrible would happen to him when she realized that she might not reach the hospital in time.

The hero officer recounted his relief, saying, “I’m just blessed that I was there to help her and to make sure that her baby came into this world with a beautiful baby boy, safe and sound.”

Almost fifteen minutes after the birth, baby Noah’s umbilical cord was still uncut until emergency medical personnel arrived. They expressed surprise at Lee’s actions.

The officer said he didn’t think of himself as a hero because his actions were expected of an officer. On Monday, the mother and baby were released from the hospital.

Lee, on the other hand, has maintained contact with the mother and son and believes they are now inseparable.

He told WAFB, “I contacted her mother and say hey you know it’s ok if I call your daughter and check up on her and check on her and her son and stuff like that. You know I know it was a trial situation that she went through, so you know at least see how they are doing.”
