Aziza Graves, a 43-year-old from San Francisco, has been found guilty of one felony count of grand theft in violation and 52 misdemeanor counts of petty theft. The thefts reportedly occurred at Target in Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco.

Also, Graves was convicted of another count of misdemeanor petty theft for an incident at an Abercrombie and Fitch store in San Francisco, according to a press statement from the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

The 43-year-old woman was accused of many Target visits between October 3, 2020, and November 16, 2021. At the time, authorities said she stole almost $60,000 worth of items from Target using self-checkout. She would choose products, go to the self-checkout station, scan them, pay a modest amount–typically a coin or bill– and take them.

She would sell the products to passersby at UN Plaza, officials said. San Francisco District Attorneys’ Investigative Bureau and San Francisco Police Department Burglary Unit investigators followed Graves and saw her sell the merchandise multiple times.

“Retail theft continues to have a major impact on San Francisco businesses from the small mom-and-pop corner store to the large retail stores,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins in a written statement . “Individuals such as Aziza Graves commit egregious thefts through brazen and repeated conduct that greatly impacts retailers’ ability to operate and serve the general public in their area.”

“These crimes demand accountability, and we need to send the message to others who engage in open and brash thefts that, with the support of our local law enforcement partners, our office will continue to pursue and prosecute those involved. This verdict emphasizes that the citizens of San Francisco will not tolerate these offenders who attempt to take advantage of our business community.”

Graves is facing more than three years in prison after being convicted. Sentencing is set for May 24.

How do you scan merchandise and then not have to pay for it except for a few coins and dollars? Doesn't make sense...maybe the self-checkout clerk was in on it.

It’ll be a joke if you sentence her for community service….a stiff sentence is necessary to deter these behavior….JS
