Mavericks' Dereck Lively II Roasts Jayson Tatum For His Championship Celebrations

Dereck Lively II was the star of the Dallas Mavericks' hilarious schedule announcement video. Lively took some light-hearted jabs at the rest of the league in the viral video, with the most hilarious one being when the 20-year-old re-enacted Jayson Tatum's celebrations after the Boston Celtics won the title by beating the Mavericks.

"Well, I think I found it. Oh, we found it," Lively said after finding a dinosaur egg at Dinosaur World. "We did it! We did it! People always wanted to know, 'What would happen if I never found the egg?' I guess we'll never know."

Unless you were living under a rock, you'd remember the uproar Tatum caused by attempting to recreate some iconic title celebrations . The first one that Lively re-enacted here was when Tatum yelled "We did it" after Game 5 of the Finals.

This, of course, reminded you of Kevin Garnett's iconic "Anything is possible" line after he and the Celtics had won the title in 2008. The next one that Lively re-enacted was Tatum quoting Kanye West's iconic line at one point during the celebrations.

That was absolutely hilarious on Lively and the Mavericks' part. This is how you poke fun at someone without being malicious in any way. I don't think Tatum would take much offense at all if he comes across the clip, especially with Lively being a fellow Duke alum. It was all just in good fun.

There won't be a lot of fun being had when Tatum and the Celtics take on Lively and the Mavericks next season, though. It's the rematch of the NBA Finals and Dallas would be keen to gain some revenge. The first game between these two will be held in Dallas on Jan. 25, 2025, and the second one on Feb. 6, 2025, in Boston.

Getting back to that announcement video, there were some other notable shots taken too. Lively joked about all the barking that the Oklahoma City Thunder players did last season and about Anthony Edwards' viral "Bring ya a**" comment.

I mentioned earlier that Tatum is unlikely to take offense to any of it and that's down to comments the 26-year-old himself made after winning the title. Tatum stated the internet is undefeated when asked about the memes regarding him imitating title celebrations.

“Yeah, I’ve seen them. The internet is a great place. As they say, the internet is undefeated. I’ve had a good time laughing and seeing all the memes and things like that.”

It was good to know that Tatum took all of it in stride. Then again, when you win the championship, you know that ultimately, you get the last laugh.

Tatum and the Celtics look primed to become the first team to repeat since the Golden State Warriors in 2018 as well. They have brought back all the key pieces from that title-winning squad and I think beating them in a seven-game series will be quite difficult.

As for whether they'll face Lively and the Mavericks again in the Finals, I have some doubts about that. The Western Conference looks loaded at the moment and it's hard to predict who's going to win it.

If Lively, who averaged 8.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game as a rookie last season, can take a big step in his sophomore season, then perhaps the Mavericks might be able to separate themselves from the pack.
