Gilbert Arenas: "I Added Stephen Curry To My Top Five..."

Stephen Curry's place in the NBA hierarchy is still up for debate, and former NBA point guard Gilbert Arenas just sparked another conversation after announcing his latest placement of the Warriors legend. As he announced on his podcast "Gil's Arena," Curry has become the newest entry into his top five players ever.

“I added Steph to my top 5. I don't know who to push out; you're gonna have to give me some time," said Arenas during a recent live stream . "Right now I got six people in my top five… Don't ask me how it works. It was like, he [Steph] hit a shot; they hit a shot; he came [and] hit a shot; they miss[ed] a shot... This [expletive] came with another dagger. It was like, this is Steph's moment right here."

As a former All-Star guard himself, Arenas is more qualified than most to rank the game's best point guards but his opinion of Curry has changed a lot in recent years. Over the past few months alone, he has stated that Kevin Durant saved Curry's legacy and that players like Trae Young and Devin Booker are more "natural scorers" than the 2x MVP .

And yet, thanks to his most recent performance at the Paris Olympic Games, Arenas has put Curry into his top five greatest players ever. At 36 years old, Curry stole the show in France this summer and averaged 12.4 points and 2.4 rebounds through five tournament games. Along with LeBron James and Kevin Durant , Curry led Team USA and displayed impressive leadership skills in the quest for the gold.

Even without his first Olympic experience, Curry's resume is worthy of being in All-Time territory. Drafted 7th overall in 2009, the feelings were mixed on whether Curry could live up to his potential as a franchise point guard. Today, over 15 years later, Steph has more than surpassed expectations.

As it stands, No. 30 is one of the most accomplished players in modern basketball history with 4 championships, 2 MVPs, 10 All-Star appearances, and 10 All-NBA selections. His career averages are up to 24.8 points, 6.4 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game on 42.6% shooting from three.

While Steph may not have as many titles as Magic or the same number of MVPs as Michael Jordan , his legacy is unmatched in terms of overall impact on the league and the sport as a whole. Curry changed the way the entire game was played and the fact that he's still one of the best in the league at 36 years old is even more reason to rank him as the top five greatest players in the sport.

As his career draws closer to its end, Steph will look to whatever means are necessary to ensure has a chance at the title. As long as his jumper remains pure, Curry can keep the Warriors competitive for years to come but they need to make additional moves to maximize their chances in the West.

No matter what happens going forward, Curry's legacy as an All-Time great is already set, and his achievements already outnumber some of the most accomplished athletes on the planet. If he can make one more title run, nobody will be able to deny his place in the top five.
